Dear Miles (Eight Months)


Dear Miles,

We get to celebrate your eighth month on Memorial Day, and with a long weekend! Today we pause to remember everyone who has served our country so selflessly and so well, and with thankful hearts we think of their families who have faced their own hardships because of loved ones’ service. From the bottom of our hearts we thank them. 

You’ve had another busy and fun month, Milan! Honestly, you are already creating fun wherever you go with your big, bright, easy smile and your belly laugh! So many have remarked about what a good boy you are, and how fun you are to have around. We absolutely couldn’t agree more! You are becoming such a little ham, more and more each day and it is our greatest pleasure to be your parents. Here are some of the highlights from this month-

[Miles]tones:

- You are just starting to get up on all fours and rock back and forth, getting ready to crawl. It won’t be long now! 
- You are constantly jabbering to yourself, or anyone else who will listen and jabber back. The only problem with this is during our life group and youth group, when you want to carry on a conversation with whoever is speaking at the time. 
- You laugh so easily, Miles, and this is one of our favorite things about you. You have such a sweet, fun personality already, and we love watching it shine through!
- Your big smile lights up the room! Some have said it lights up your whole face and we can’t help but smile when you look at us with your big toothless grin!
- Speaking of your toothless grin, you are keeping us guessing with when your first tooth might pop up… Nothing yet, except a bunch of drool!
- If you’re awake, you’re always moving! Whether you’re rolling around on the floor, kicking your legs like a crazy man, trying to kneel as you hold onto something, or jumping up and down when someone holds you up, there’s no denying you’re going to be active. Maybe you’ll be my next running buddy!
- You love Riggins and he still makes you laugh often, and sometimes uncontrollably. 
-You are a champ at eating and you have purees three times a day! You give a fair shot to anything we offer you, but your favorites are: avocado, banana, broccoli, carrots, apples, sweet potato, and oatmeal. You aren't a big fan of green beans, peas, or squash, but you still give them a chance, at least for a couple bites. However, you have also started spitting out your food when you're feeling done, or when you're looking for a laugh.
- You are now 23 pounds and 26 inches tall!
- You and daddy made my first Mother's Day so special!
- You strike a hilarious "model pose" while you lay on your side, leaning on one arm, with your other hand usually messing with your diaper :)

 It seems that each new stage and milestone is more fun than the last, and we can't wait to keep experiencing them with you, sweet boy! My continued prayer for you is that you will grow up to be a servant; first of the Lord, then of others.That you will always consider others better than yourself, and go out of your way to serve however you can. We love you to the utmost, Milan Bryan!

Four years ago PB and I were having dinner with a friend from college and her gracious parents in their lovely home. We were fulfilling Bryan’s college internship requirements at a wonderful church in Iowa, but we were often lonely, so one of my sweet college floor-mates offered herself and her family as company one evening. We were so thankful for this gesture, and even more thankful to learn from her parents who had been involved in pastoral ministry for many years. I remember exchanging stories and listening intently as we were told the utter importance of remembering God’s faithfulness in our lives in bringing us to Iowa and providing us both with paid internships, free housing, and a great experience. They warned that ministry, and life, would not always be so wonderful and full of hope and joy. God's Provision (and our official announcement!)

God is faithful. He always is, even when we don't open our eyes enough to see it. God has once again proven His faithfulness to us when we least deserve it, but definitely needed it! Bryan and I have seen God work in so many ways in the past few weeks and months and we are amazed; not that God is still working, after all, we've seen Him move throughout our whole lives, but amazed that He still chooses to bless us beyond belief. We are undeserving, selfish, sinful, weak, and poor. Yet, the Savior of the world decided to open a new door of opportunity for us.  Bryan has been seeking an internship in order to complete his academic requirements at Moody and while some doors had been closing, on Friday, February 3rd, both Bryan and I had interviews with a youth pastor and his wife from a church in Iowa. There were other qualified candidates interviewing for the same position, so we prayed. It seemed too good to be true, so we prayed harder. God knew what He was doing the whole time...

Provision

As I look back at 2012 the one word that comes to mind to describe the year is "provision". God has been clearly showing me how He provided for all my needs in the past year, and I hope this look back at my year encourages you to count your blessings, as well. Beyond graduating from college last winter (which was a blessing in itself), Bryan and I had both been praying for me to find a good job to help save up money before the wedding. Once I got home and started applying, I ended up working 3 regular jobs, as well as occasional nannying. That was a huge answer to prayer!  Last spring planning our wedding was on the forefront of my mind. My parents offered me a budget and after many different considerations and decisions made, we ended up coming in under budget; which was a great blessing!
