Dear Miles (Two Months)

Dear Miles,

I cannot express how absolutely adorable it is when you look in my eyes, grin ear to ear, and let out a little baby giggle. You just started doing this the past couple weeks, and it makes my heart melt! Your second month has been full of fun and new things like, celebrating Thanksgiving and getting to meet so many of your extended family members, rolling over from tummy to back, responding to your name and mommy and daddy's voice, laughing and giggling, smiling, babbling and cooing. I'm convinced you have a certain number of "words" to use throughout the day and after you eat seems to be your prime time. 

You have started sleeping much better at night (praise the Lord in Heaven, He has heard our prayers) and while we still have a rough night occasionally, overall you are only waking up about twice per night to eat and get a clean diaper. Last night you only woke up once (say whaaat?!) and daddy and I were stoked, to say the least.

Another highlight was going to your two month checkup and discovering that you are in the 98th percentile for height and weight. Yikes! No wonder you like to eat so much! You're a big, growing boy; that's for sure! 

You are an absolute pleasure, sweet boy, and we love you so much! Our prayer for you every day is that you grow up to love and serve the Lord, seeking His will for your life. Daddy and I will do our best to point you in that direction, and pray earnestly for that moment you decide to follow Him for yourself. We are so honored and blessed to be your parents, little man.

Dear Delainey, I am so excited that you're finally here! Of course, you are worth the wait, but it's such a relief to hold you in my arms and watch you breathe. Here are some of the details of your birth... It didn't really go anything like I expected, but you're here safe and sound, and that's all I really wanted. We were scheduled to be induced on Wednesday, April 15, at 7am. Milan spent the night at Grammy and Papa's and I went out for an early morning walk with Riggins for one last attempt at starting some contractions naturally. Stories

Stories. Everyone has them. They are shared around a campfire on a starry summer night. They are sad, joyful, and everything in between. They are of lessons learned, often the hard way. They serve as warnings and inspiration. Jesus used them to get his point across. The Bible is full of them. True stories. My church has, for a long time, encouraged the use of stories to be employed in services and as a means to help others. For a while I resisted this idea, thinking “Shouldn’t Jesus be enough? Whatever these people tell me I can just hear right from Jesus.” As I was pondering these thoughts I was confronted with more issues in which the element of story was used very powerfully in my life. The Good. The Bad. The Ugly.

“But you, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the lifter of my head” Psalm 3:3. In the midst of tumult and discouragement I am quick to ask God “why”. Why do I have to do this? Why now? Why me? Why does this have to be so hard? For the record, I get that life is hard. I get that ministry is challenging. I get that this is all part of my sanctification process. I get it. But I still don’t always like it. It is so easy for me to be self-focused during these times. How I’m not getting what I want. How I don’t feel like serving. How I want it to go my way. It is in these moments that I get a glimpse into my own depravity.
