Dear Delainey [Your Birth Story]
Dear Delainey,
I am so excited that you're finally here! Of course, you are worth the wait, but it's such a relief to hold you in my arms and watch you breathe. Here are some of the details of your birth... It didn't really go anything like I expected, but you're here safe and sound, and that's all I really wanted.
We were scheduled to be induced on Wednesday, April 15, at 7am. Milan spent the night at Grammy and Papa's and I went out for an early morning walk with Riggins for one last attempt at starting some contractions naturally. I felt a few minor contractions but nothing too substantial. Daddy and I got checked in at the hospital just after 7am, and that began a long, slow marathon to your birth. I was given Cytotec to ripen my cervix and then eventually Pitocin was started to induce contractions. After a few hours, my nurse (who also goes to Open Door!) stripped my membranes and broke my water. After a couple more hours and not really progressing enough to think about pushing, I opted for an epidural to hopefully get a little rest. At this point, it became obvious you were not coming on the 15th.
However, when you finally did decide it was time to come it was only a couple pushes later and I got to see your beautiful face and hold you. You came around 4:30am on Thursday, April 16. You were pretty blue, but you still got an Apgar score of 9, and you were perfect! You latched right away and we got to have skin-to-skin for about two hours. You were 9lb. 1oz. of pure perfection, and just the sweetest little baby.
We named you Delainey Louise for some pretty special reasons. I had the name Delainey picked out ever since I was a little girl because it uses my mom's middle name (Elaine) and the D from my middle name (Dawn), combined to make Delainey. We also love that it means "bright light" and you have already certainly been that during this very challenging time of our lives.
Louise is your Grammy's middle name and means "famous warrior". We hope that you will be a warrior for the oppressed, the orphans, and the widows and shine the light of Christ everywhere you go.
You may have been born in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, but honestly, our time in the hospital didn't feel much different, except that we couldn't have guests. It was a bummer that Milan couldn't come to the hospital to meet you, and no other family or friends either. But it was also nice to not have the pressure that brings... We could just relax with you and spend all our time snuggling and getting to know you.
We love you so much, sweet girl, and the time we've gotten to have with you is such a blessing. You and Milan are two of our greatest treasures.
All My Love,
Mama
