Dear Miles [One Year!]

Dear little Miles,

There were times I wondered if this milestone would ever come, and other times when I wished it wasn't coming quite so quickly. It has been a whirlwind year with you and one I wouldn't trade for anything! You are becoming such a personable little guy, always jabbering and smiling, and so busy! I think you would be super eager to start walking if you didn't crawl so stinking fast. Why walk slow when you can crawl fast, right?

We had a wonderful time celebrating your first birthday on Saturday evening, the day after your birthday, with so many family members. It was so fun having so many of them here to celebrate you. You also started getting your fourth tooth on your birthday, which was exciting but caused you to be a little more cranky than normal. It was exciting having Asher here for the first time with Uncle Jordan and Auntie Erica, too.

It was fun going to your doctor's appointment this week and seeing how much you've grown and developed from the last appointment. You are still coming in around the 80's-90's in percentile for both height and weight. You're weighing in at about 25 pounds and you're 2'6" tall. We marked your height for the first time on the wall measuring stick grammy and papa got you for Christmas.

Milan, it has been such a joy being your mama for the last year (+ 9 months) and watching you grow into the sweet, spirited, strong-willed little person you are! The name "Milan" means kind, loving, and gracious and it is certainly our prayer for you that you would grow into that kind of man. Someone who loves to serve those around you, and won't just do what's necessary or expected, but someone who will go the extra mile (Matthew 5:41). Your middle name, Bryan, means high or noble. With that in mind we hope you always remember, and claim from an early age, your identity as a child of God. There will be earthly things that fight for your affection and your identity, but none will ever come close to what God has to say about you. You are chosen, holy, and beloved (Colossians 3:12), and I hope you revel in that, all your days.

Below is a little glimpse at your birthday festivities! Grandma outdid herself again with your cake and making the fry bread for Navajo tacos. So many others helped with bringing food and drink, playing with you, and making you feel so loved and celebrated on your big day. You are immensely blessed, Miles, with so many who love you so well.

Your daddy and I are completely overwhelmed with love for you, and we're so blessed to be your parents. We pray that we do our part in preparing you to be a minister of the Gospel and launch you out to multiply the saints for God's Kingdom. We love you so much, our little wild one. You are truly a wonderful blessing.

All my love,
Mama
